Dodge Grand Caravan Key Fob Battery Replacement Guide

This automotive maintenance tutorial was specifically written to assist owners of the 5th generation or "Generation V" (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 & 2014) Dodge Grand Caravan in changing the battery in the combination ignition key and key fob remote control for the keyless entry system.
Owners of other Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep or RAM vehicles with similar key fobs such as the Avenger, 200, 300, Town & Country, Challenger, Charger, Dart, Durango, Journey, Patriot, Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Compass, 1500, 2500, 3500, C/V Tradesman and ProMaster may also find these DIY instructions to be helpful.

The only tool needed to replace the battery is a small flathead screwdriver used to pry apart the two halves of the fob.
The first step is to slide the switch at the bottom of the key fob in order to release the emergency metal ignition key.
Slide the backup metal ignition key out of the fob and set it aside in a safe place.
Then insert the blade of your small flathead screwdriver in to the notch where the metal key used to reside.
Gently pry apart the two halves of the key fob and set the front cover aside.
Pull the rubber buttons and the green remote control circuit board out of the back half of the key fob to reveal the old battery.

Either pull out the old battery from the socket with your finger nail or gently pry it out with the small flathead screwdriver.
Try to avoid damaging the metal electrical contacts with the screwdriver.

Insert a new # CR2032 3 volt coin cell battery in to the holder with the "+" positive side facing down and the blank "-" negative side facing up towards you.
Lower the remote control unit and the rubber buttons in to the back cover of the key fob.

Line up the front cover of the key fob over the buttons.
Gently snap together the two halves of the key fob.
Make sure that the two halves are flush together all the way around.

Re-insert the metal ignition key until it clicks securely in to place.
Test the new battery by standing near your Grand Caravan and pushing the "Unlock" or "Lock" buttons.

If the new battery is working properly, you should see the parking lights flash and hear the door locks opening or closing.

Don't forget to record the battery change in your vehicle's service records.
